In the December 2006 issue of Complex magazine, Lil Wayne dissed the rap duo Clipse and the long time producer and friend Pharrell Wiilliams calling him “weird”. Also proclaiming the he is a living legend and that he would not wear BAPE, KidRobot, or BBC/Ice Cream anymore on a later interview.
“I don’t see no fucking Clipse. This is a fucking legend you’re talking to right here. How many years them niggas been around? Who the fuck is Pharrell? Do you really respect him? That ni**a wore BAPE and y’all thought he was weird. I wore it and y’all thought it was hot. What I gotta go in the store and say, ‘I like these colors but I can’t buy them because other 1. rappers wore them?”
Nonetheless, the “best rapper alive” has gone back on his words again. Just look at what is in my inbox today……

Hmmm….That is what I thought. Lil Wayne would need Pharrell, before Pharrell needs Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne is full of himself…..
I have been a fan of Wayne since The Block is Hot and even threw the early SQ1-7 mixtapes. However, lets puts some facts on the table…..
Wayne is the long standing member and also EMPLOYEE to Cash Money/ Universal Records. Chances are that Wayne gets a paycheck from his boss, Bryan “Baby” Williams, and only gets to keep a percentage of the money he gets from live performances and song features. Even if he does get most of his money, what is most important is that Wayne DOES NOT OWN HIS MASTERS.
Next is Lil Wayne’s 8 Grammy nominations….
Seriously! The Carter 3 was hot the first week of listening to it. How many times can you say “A Milli”? The production was okay but he just got big name producers and not their best work. How can you pay for Kanye and Swiss Beatz and not get their best work?
Okay he sold a million plus copies his first week. And maybe he deserves Artist of the Year. Not Ablum of the Year. That honor should go to Ludacris for Theatre of the Mind. That was a great album. Not good but GREAT. Solid. Good production, features, subject matter, and continuity. Most of all, you can understand what he is saying.
Lil Wayne is good but not great. The greatest still belong to Shawn Corey Carter also known as Jay-Z.
One last point…..
Remember that Pepsi commercial, where Quincy Jones is driving a bus. He picks up Dr. Dre, Sean combs, and who else? Pharrell Williams. At the end of the commercial, Quincy Jones calls them “The Future”.
